Uho-in is one of the rare temples to have the kanji for "rain" in their name, probably because, well, no one really likes rain ;) However Uho-in likes rain, so much in fact that it has one of the "five famous wells of Nishijin" (西陣, the name for the old quarter of western Kyoto). The well is named "Somedonoi" (染殿井); the other four famous wells are Sendai (1000 years - 千代井), Sakura (cherry tree - 桜井), Ankyoi (easy life - 安居井) and Kakoi (fawn - 鹿子井). The name "Somedonoi" contains the character for dyeing (染) because the water from the well was suitable for use in dyeing processes. The well became famous as it still had water during droughts.

The small temple grounds also have several kind of flowers and trees. The most famous is a cherry blossom tree with rare yellowish flowers.
