Daihōon-ji (大報恩寺)

Daihōon-ji (大報恩寺)

The temple was established in 1227. The main hall was built using donations from followers of the cult, but one of the main pillars bought with this money was cut too short, and could not be used. A woman passing by ("おかめ") advised the architect on what to do, and the construction could be finished. Female intuition! There are many statues of "Okame" throughout the temple (*). The temple can be visited, as well as its "treasure house" which contains many artefacts.

(*) I'm not completely sure about this story; if you read Japanese better than me you will find more information here and there on the net.
