Nishimura villa (西村家庭園)

Nishimura villa (西村家庭園)

Little known and off the beaten paths, the Nishimura villa is located near the Kamigamo shrine (上賀茂神社). The area has several old villas that used to belong to priest of the nearby shrine. Its garden was designed in 1181 garden designer Fujiki Shigeyasu.

The villa is opened all year except for a few winter months. It has two gardens. The first one can be viewed from the main room and is a classic example of gardens of this area. It's not extraordinary but contrary to many other places it is very quiet and peaceful as few tourists stop here. The other the garden is in the southern part of the grounds and is structured around a pond over which loom tall trees.
