Kosho-ji is a relatively large temple hidden in the hills of Uji, near Byodo-in. Although not very well known from foreigners, this temple is popular in autumn where the long maple-covered path leading to its front gate is one of Uji's best attractions. Early summer is the blooming season for the satsuki and tsutsuji rhododendrons that are everywhere on the temple grounds. This gives a welcome touch of colour to this temple that would be otherwise a bit greyish. Note the particular design of the gate at the entrance of the compound; IIRC it is of Chinese influence.
